SUMMER Allergies Aren’t Just for Humans, Is Your Dog Affected?
SUMMER Allergies Aren’t Just for Humans, Is Your Dog Affected?
Sniffles, sneezes, and scratches, oh my!
As the temps rise and the flowers bloom, many of us start reaching for tissues and antihistamines but did you know your dog could be suffering from seasonal allergies too? That’s right! Your pup's increased itching, licking, or sneezing might not be a coincidence. Summer allergies in dogs are very real, and they’re more common than you might think.
How to Tell if Your Dog Has Allergies
Dogs can react to environmental allergens like pollen, grass, mold, and dust mites, especially during spring and summer. While they won’t get the same red eyes or runny nose as we do, they show symptoms in different ways.
Common signs include:
- Excessive licking (especially paws)
- Scratching or biting at skin
- Red or inflamed ears
- Watery eyes
- Sneezing
- Patchy fur or skin irritation
If you notice any of these signs, it’s worth checking with your vet to rule out allergies or get treatment recommendations. Some pets may need special shampoos, allergy meds, or even changes to their diet.
